There are so many children books that I love and I can't really narrow it down. However, my all time favorite is "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," by Laura Joffe Numeroff and illustrated Felicia Bond. She is one of my favorite author along with others. I love all the books by Laura Numeroff. But my current favorite is "The Bad Case of Stripes," by David Shannon.
What do you enjoy most about A Case of Stripes? Have you used it in the classroom in any creative ways? I have this one too.
ReplyDeleteI like how they call in all the people to help the girl and the sweet little old lady comes in with a plate of lima beans to cure up the stripes. Like most kids they don't eat their vegetables because a friend might not like them. I haven't use it in the classroom yet. But the kids love this book as well. They are always asking to read it. I just googled a few activities on how you can use it creative way. One example and using it for the first week of school for Pre-K thru 1st grade: discussion about why we worry about what others think, bullying, and learning to respect and accept differences in others. Have the students draw a large picture of themselves and decorate it with their own "Bad Case of...." You may want them to introduce themselves with this drawing. They could decorate with something they like. For example, Gayle loves to fish, so she decorates herself in the drawing with water and fish for a "Bad Case of Fishing"
ReplyDeleteDiscuss and Chart
Discuss how Camilla worried about how others felt about her at the beginning of the story and then how she felt at the end of the story.
Referring back to the list of student worries, determine possible solutions to their worries. These may lead to rules for the classroom.
Discuss what respect means. What would disrespectful behavior look like? What would respectful behavior look like?
The information I just share with came for the scholastic website here is the web address: http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plan/bad-case-stripes-lesson-plan
If you use it tell me how it went with the kids!!!!!
