Do I find myself communicating differently around a group of
people and culture? Yes, however, I am
very caution on what I say and how I say it depending on if it is work related
or a just casual conversation with a friend.
When it work related I try to keep my language professional, whereas
when I am talking with my friends I am using more slang.
I am also very careful what I say and my expressions at all times. It is very easy for someone to misunderstand nonverbal communication. I had to limit the usage of slang, because I was finding myself in habbit saying it. So I changed my communication altogether.
ReplyDeleteI just realize that I did not include my three strageties. Three strategies I could use to help you communicate more effectively with the people or groups I have identified 1) ask questions when I do not understand or when something is unclear. 2)the Platinum Rule would help significantly during communication, and 3) to acknowledge that differences do exist and not all people will react the same way.
ReplyDeleteHi Felecia,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, when talking to your friends I also talk in slang but when talking to my coworkers or someone I do not know I talk professionally. Asking questions when meeting someone you do not know will help you to better understand where the person is from, what type of language he or she speaks, and what his or her background.
