Bye, Bye

For many this might have been a long journey to complete but I see it as a way to help the days, months, and year go by a little fast.  It has been one amazing journey for me during these last pass 8 weeks and throughout this whole master program.  I have learned and accomplished many things that I thought I would never be able to do.  Through this course and the other I have developed and learned skills that I thought I would never do.  I have enjoyed the comments, insights, suggest, and even the inspiration that my colleagues have share throughout my discussion boards and blogs.  Without have such wonderful and smart to share their outlook on things I would probably look at the world from just my view.  However, understandings that other people might view things differently or even think differently about things have broadened my thinking.  As we come to the stage of adjourning, it saddens me that I have to depart from my wonderful group of people.  I have really enjoyed working with each and every one.  I wish everyone great luck and hope the best for each and every one.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone and hope to see some familiar face comes the new year!!!

I would also like to ask for a few pointers about starting up my own Head Start Program or my own day care center?  If there are any suggests please let me know.  I am very interested in opening up my own day care center and starting a Head Start Program.  Thanks!!! Five Stages of Team Development: Adjourning

A time where it was hard to say was my high school basketball team and senior year and my senior year in college playing basketball as well. These were the hardest time to say good bye because of our bond we shared.  Not only we shared the same goals but we prayed together creating a spiritual bond as well especially in college.
I would consider playing basketball college as high performance groups because of the outcome of the goals. Yes I do think they are the hardest to leave because as a team we have accomplish something together that we all wanted.  Some of the person in the groups did the something as other with made a strong bond.  After a game or when it was someone birthday or just wanted to hang out we partied.    College basketball was the hardest to leave because of the type of people I met and enjoyed being around.  Everyone was supportive of each other and when we needed something or someone, they was there to help.    The different sorts of closing rituals I experienced were praying together before and after a game.  Going to chapel on Wednesday together and to church on Sundays.

To adjourn from the group of colleagues I have formed while working on my master's degree in this program is to try to stay in touch with everyone to get ideas from my colleagues and to questions about things I am stuck on. It will be hard to adjourn from this group of people just about everyone has begin there since the beginning of the master's program.     Adjourning is an essential stage of teamwork because that's when you know true relationships has been formed.

Resolving Conflict

There are several conflicts I have within the professional work place and in my personal life.  Within the work place I think several of the teachers would agree with me on this, which is how the company schedule holiday and teachers work day.  However the company asks for our input about planning, time management, and things we need to be compliance with everything. One thing we suggested were teacher work days without children, training, or half of a day but a full day of just teachers working in our room to clean, go through files, catch up on paper and etc.  I know several teachers have asked for days like this and yet we have received them.  I think throughout this company there is a lack of communication from the owner all the way down to the teachers and parents.  With that been said I do not even know if my colleagues and I will have a job next year due to the lack of communicate with the owner of the building we are renting and the company I work for.  Yet the company has not came forth to tell its employees at this particular center that we will be moving in July 2013, no one has set aside a meeting to inform us of this move.  All we have been hearing is he say and she say, and everyone is worried whether we will be out of work.  Lack of communication skills, communicating to it employees will clear up everything and it will tell us if we need to start looking for another job or not.

Now in my personal life my fiancĂ© and I always seem to have problems about how much money goes out and what it’s been spent on.  What I tell him is that the bills are paid on time and we have a saving that’s what counts.  The extra money can be used however he or I want to use it.  I am always buying stuff for our kids and myself.  At one point he called me selfish because the only people I think about is me and my kids.  He has other outside children and I feel that they are not my responsibility to provide for them.   So there are times I get upset and say things that are not needed to be said.  At one point I told him that it seems like I am the only one providing for three kids.  And the conflict took off from there.  After yelling and screaming for a few minutes we decide that this was not getting us anywhere and compromise on how we can solve this problem.  One way we decide to work through this problem is to communicate more often when I am buying things for our kids so it wants seem like I am always buying thing for the kids.

My Communication Style

After being evaluated by my fiance and colleague for this week assignment I found that they both scored me in the group one as a people-orientedin my listening style.  I too, scored myself as people-oriented.  What was different was how they scored me as communication anxiety. My scored from my fiance was low and my score from my colleague was in the middle.  Through these assessements I found that I communicate differently when I am with different and in a different environment.  For the verbal aggressiveness they both scored me in the significant level which was kind of surprise to me because I hate confrontation and try to avoid it.
From this assessment I found that I communicate and respond differently depending on the environment and people I am around.  My coworkers and colleague sees the professional side of me and my fiance see the down to earth person.

Three Goals that I think can help me communication more effectively with other people are:

1.  feeling  more comfortable when speaking to others that I am unfamiliar with
2.  continue to be a good listener and try not to trust people so easily
3.  try not to offend others by personal attack about as ituation that I dislike in an argument .

Communicating Differently

Do I find myself communicating differently around a group of people and culture?  Yes, however, I am very caution on what I say and how I say it depending on if it is work related or a just casual conversation with a friend.  When it work related I try to keep my language professional, whereas when I am talking with my friends I am using more slang.

Unfamiliar TV Show

Awkward

For this assignment I was to watch a TV show I never watch before.  Awkward is a television show on MTV that is about a girl named Jenny who dates was dating guy and they ended breaking.  I had no idea what was going in this TV show.

In this particular episode the characters' relationships far as communicating is mostly gestures and body language such as hands moving with they are talking, neck rolling, and eyes rolling.   Basic on their gestures they relationships are friends. There was also a lot of kissing scenes in the TV show.  They were also communicating with cell phones talking and texting.

When I turned the sound back on my assumption was correct they were friends and using hands gesture and different body language was a way they communicated.  They were talking about Jenny boyfriends and why he was at a concern party.

This show is basically teen girls and boys and they are dating each other.  Through the reading I have found that verbal and nonverbal communication skills are skills that can be culture, it can cause by your emotions at that moment.  In the episode I think I lot of their communications where basic off of their emotions.   I could tell by their voice, facial expression, body language, and gestures.  They use their language to express feelings and to share information.

To really understand this show you have to watch it from the beginning.  I had no clue what was going on.  My niece had to tell me what the show was about after I watch it.  As I mention this show has a lot of kissing scene and sex scenes.

Competent Communication

When I think of someone who demonstrates competent communication are my center manager and FSA (Family Service Advocate).  When they speak they speak with passion about different situations.  Working in low-income program they are a lot of the things to see.  However, when things are not safe for the child or for the family these two people speak on behalf of them trying to communicate with families or whoever is need at the time.  When things are reported it takes affect as so as possible.  You can tell they are doing this type of work with a passion because when things are not going as they are suppose to be they are doing whatever they have to do to make sure things are getting done properly.

I would love to model some of these communication behaviors because they are so well spoken and every knowledgeable in what they do.  They have a passion for help others and making sure families are provided with the best services.

Professional Hopes and Goals

One hope that I have when I think about working with children and families is that everyone is treated equally with respect regardless of their age, sex, race, religious or whatever makes them different from other. While working in the classroom hope to make everyone feel welcome and to make sure that their culture is being valued in the classroom.  I want to make sure that the children are learning at their highest potential.  I have to include that the students are safe and learning about the differences within the classroom and outside the classroom.  Through my lessons I want to make sure that my students are learning about all the differences in the world.  I want them to have an understanding that everyone is different and unique by at the same time plays an important part to society.

I would like to thank my entire colleague for their comments and response to both my blog and discussion board.  I appreciate everything everyone said.  You comments and response means a lot to me and help me see things in a different way.  Thanks everyone!!

Welcoming Families From Around the World

For this week blog we were to pretend that we are about to receive a family or a child from another country I know nothing about that will joining my group soon. I need to prepare myself to welcome the child and her family to my child care center.

The family I received are from Madagascar an island country in the Indian Ocean, off the southeastern coast of Africa. There are a family for five a husband, wife, two daughters and a son.  They are new to states.  Daddy was offer a job and decided to move the family to the states.  The job paid for the whole family to come to the states and become citizens.  After a few years working the job ended.  The family was devastated.  They were so use to living a the middle class life.  That the thought of living on less than $1 per day was depressing.  Well the family reached out for help.  The children was referred to my center for early childhood care.  I was notify ahead of time that the family was somewhat new to the states and was still adapting to it.  So to prepare me and my staff
1.  I will read about their culture and get a generally idea about them.
2.  I will have a conference with the family to understand them better
3.  I will ask the parents what are you looking for your children to gain for the center
4.  I will incorporate their culture and beliefs in the classroom.
5.  I will ask the parents to do a lesson with the class or do a parent meeting sharing that culture and beliefs with others if its okay with them.

Through these five things I hope that I have reached out to the family to make them feel welcome and accepted.  Through these preparation I hope I have covered the things that were need to prepare me and my staff for the new comers.  I feel like this benefit me by letting the family know that we accept them just the way they are and by researching their country it will prove to them that we tried to incorporate that way of life so how.  It benefits the family by making them feel welcome in our center and shows that care about their culture.

The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

Just the other day me and my mom was coming for Wal-Mart.  We were talking and having a good time.  Then she made the comment that she went partying with the white folks.  I was like ooohhh!! What do you mean partying with the white folks.  She really can not example what she meant by it. But when she could not example what she meant by partying with the white folks I said in a nice way to not single out just the white folks partying. Just say you went out last night and had a good time.    I am also guilty of this as well.  However, since I have taken this course I am trying to watch what I say and how I say it. I have came more aware of what I say and other people say around me when considering bias, prejudice, and oppression.  My mother is far from being prejudice or anything else.  She is the nicest lady on earth I think.  Just like many of us, we are use to saying things that are not meant in a prejudice or bias way.

Another situation I have encountered myself is when a coworker made a statement about me breastfeeding or pumping so my child could receive breast milk.  I shared a comment on another colleague blog about my experience about breastfeeding.  This incident happen soon after I went back to work after having my first born.  I was working at McDonald and needed to pump.  I was on a schedule of pumping every 3 to 4 hours.  This particular day I was working an eight hour shift.  I have a lunch break and pumped but needed to pump again.  When I asked the manager to go pump it was no probably.  However, there was a bystander listening when I asked.  The comment that came out of her mouth was "We do not pay you to pump, we pay you to take orders and service the customer." Just to hear that from a woman hurts.  I thought she would be more understanding then anyone else.

Practicing Awareness of Microaggressions

No one is born racist. Racism is taught. Through both explicit and implicit messages, society teaches ideas, attitudes and assumptions about race that are not true (Margles & Margles, 2010). As the Margles mention in the article racism is taught. I truly believe it. However, this might not be the case, but this is a little Hispanic child in another Head Start class where I teach that does not like the response to anyone who are white. In his class there are two teachers a white lady and a Hispanic lady. The little boy does not speak English nor Spanish well, be you can tell he is trying to learn both languages because he repeats whatever you. In the mornings we are all on the playground together. Me being sure a nice and caring teacher I try to learn all the kids name and speak to them. Because usually I am the next teacher they will see when entering Pre-K. Well this particular day this kid tried to come into my classroom. When I told him he could not come in. He hold on to my leg and almost started to cry. My center manager was out there and tried to grab him to tell him to go play and that he could not go into the classroom. He refused to let go. So the center manager called the Hispanic teacher over to get him. Once she told him to go play he did. The center manager is white and his lead teacher is white. When I asked her do he response to her in the classroom she said no. She said that she do not know what it is about him. He listen to the other teacher but not me. It could be because he speak both little English and Spanish.
This is the only case I have seen this week of micro aggressions, however, that's probably not the case, it could be language and comprehensive because he does not speak English or Spanish well. From this observation, if this is the case, I feel like the parents have something to do with it. But I do not know the parents and have not really communicated to with them to know.
From this week observation experiences this week affect my perception of the effects of discrimination, prejudice, and/or stereotypes on people by getting to know and understand them more. It might not be that they are prejudice but simply do not understand or comprehend what is been said. On the other hand, the parents or family members could be telling him things that make him dislike the whites.

Perspectives on Diversity and Culture

For this week blog we were to ask at least three different people their understanding of diversity and culture.  So I called two friends and a family member. Here is their definition of diversity and culture:

1st friend: Her definition of diversity is according to multiple people in the classroom such Hispanic,  American, Koran, Russian.  She label things in her class in their language and try to learn at least three words in their language.
Her definition of culture is the quality within you.  Who you are.  What you believe.  For example, African raise their child differently by not letting them watch TV and putting education first.
2nd friend:  Her definition of diversity is multiple of amount or number of choices.  A lot of different things you can choose just a number of things.
Her definition of culture is your up bring, heritage, and family bonds.
3rd family member:  Her definition of culture is people, families, parties, food, and clothes.
Her definition of diversity of is separately, different, and color, race, belief.

The answers I received are somethings I have learned in this course such as, heritage, color, beliefs, language, food, and clothes.
I think my friends and my one family member hit all the aspect of culture and diversity.  They define both words well enough to have an understanding of the words.
Viewing my friends and family member definition of diversity and culture has not influence my own thinking on these topics.  My personal definition diversity and culture reflect their definition.

My Family Culture

For this week assignment we are to consider that we are moving to another country and can not return until we are told to.  We can only bring 3 small items that are important to us.  However, I can not think of three things that are very important to me.  The first thing I will bring is a the Bible. I would bring the Bible to keep faith and to help me get through the days in the new country.  The second thing I would bring is the a photo album.  Even though my family is with me I would still like to think about and see what we left behind, just for memories.  The last thing I can not think of.  I have nothing else that is as important.  I have nothing in my family that has been passed down or means lot.  I am not a materialist person, so bring anything that is material would probably be a waste.  As long as I have my family with me I will survive with them.  They mean the world to me and I am sure that we will make it together in this new country as long as we stand by each other.  However, the last thing I would probably bring will be my cell phone. So I can stay in contact with ours in my life such as my friends and other people.  Maybe they could help us escape for this new country.
This picture is of all the grandkids of my mother and father. (7 grandkids)
These are my three kids. (3 years old and twins are 1)

When I Think of Research...

When I first enter this class I was like what in the word have I got myself in to.   I quickly thought to myself that I would have to write this long research paper that would be 20 pages or more, had to look for different resources to make the paper good, had to spend long hours in the library to find what I needed for the research paper, and would have to find some people to participant in the research.  I also felt out of place because I had no idea what to do for this research, didn’t know how to read research because of the language and BIG terminology, and in addition, the graphs and charts.  At the beginning I thought I was setting myself up for failure.

Through this course I have learned a lot about research.  I have learned how to read just the important parts of the research to save time. I have learned why people do research and why it is important to do research.

The way course was taught has really helped me conduct a research.  The way it was broken into small parts really helped me understand research.  Defining the terminology in the book also help me understand research and completing the charts for the chapters also helped.

Some challenges I faced in this course was coming up with good research topics and finding something that was interest to me. I keep choosing broad topic and changing it because it was something I don’t like.

Through research there is a lot that can be found.  As the world change, educators are face with more and more challenges learning about young child.  Research for early childhood is very important it help educators and parents found answers to the unknown.

I would like to thanks everyone for the encouragement throughout this course and to Professor Janet Kien for been an awesome professor.  I knew only a little coming into this course and leaving out confidence enough to attempt a research.

Research Around the World

For this blog assignment I choose the Early Childhood Australia website to explore.  On their website they have a lot of current, recent and archived early childhood news.  They have one link that says Research in Practice Series (RIPS).  In this link that are several other links with different research titles.  However, you have to purchase the research book.  A lot of their topics are current with the things we are dealing with in United States.  One topic I came across was dealing with learning and teaching through play.  By purchasing this book here are the details that you can find in it:  The Early Years Learning Framework: Learning and teaching through play focuses on The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) for Australia and explains how educators examine their understandings of play and how play-based approaches require intentional planning and teaching in order to support and extend children’s learning.

Throughout the book there are practice examples and questions for critical reflection and discussion with colleagues. The critical reflection tasks are designed to support educators, in constructing shared understandings of how to use play-based learning and teaching to promote the principles, practices and outcomes of the EYLF.

This book will help you understand:

  • learning through play
  • learning environments
  • intentional teaching
  • cultural competence
  • continuity of learning and transitions
  • assessment for learning.

The Early Years Learning Framework: Learning and teaching through play is the third in the Research in Practice Series about the EYLF to be published by Early Childhood Australia. While these are practical guidebooks for educators, they may also be of interest to families and others who work closely with young children (ECA, 2012).

Through this site I learned that they are also linked to the National Quality Standard Professional Learning Program.  Some other surprising facts I learned on the website were about soiling.  Soiling usually happens without the child knowing (ECA, 2012).  This was interesting to me cause I was like how does one do not know they have soil there cloths, even babies.  However, I experienced this working Head Start and Pre-K.  I had a little boy that would use the bathroom on himself all the time (number 2).  But he was would go to pee.  The other kids would smell it and say he snicks or he pooed on himself.  I did not know it was a serious problem until we talked to the parents and had the little boy checked.

In additional, some other noteworthy information I find on this website about soiling are:

What causes soiling

Soiling becomes a problem if it goes on after the child is about four years of age. This is sometimes called encopresis. This is more likely to happen in boys than girls. It is usually happens with long-term constipation.

·       What often happens is:

o   The child develops hard, dry poo for some reason, perhaps a fever or an illness. It can hurt when the poo comes out. Sometimes there is even a small tear in the skin around the anus and you might see a bit of blood. The child then tries to hold onto her poo to avoid being hurt. Most children with soiling problems have had pain doing poo in the past.

o   Sometimes the pain makes the muscle where the poo comes out tighten up and this makes doing poo even harder for the child.

o   The poo gets bigger and harder and stretches the walls of the bowel. This makes it harder for the child to feel that it is time to go to the toilet because she does not know when her bowel is full.

o   In the end, bits of poo break off and fall into the child's pants or sometimes softer poo from above the large hard poo leaks around the edges and into the pants in small amounts.

o   The doctor needs to help to move the big hard poo and then the child needs to learn or relearn that doing poo does not hurt, and about the signals and how to use the toilet. This needs some special training.

·       Sometimes soiling happens because of problems with toilet training, or starts when the child has some stress eg a new baby arrives.

·       Rarely, chronic (long lasting) constipation can be caused by physical abnormalities of the bowel such as Hirschsprungs disease (the muscles of the bowel cannot work normally because the nerve supply to part of the bowel is missing) or the anus is not normal. These problems are usually picked up when the child is younger.

·       Soiling is not done purposely and usually happens without the child knowing. It is not the child's fault.

·       Sometimes people think it is laziness but it is not.

·       It can sometimes be caused by battles over toilet training.

·       Children who soil sometimes have other behaviour problems which tend to go when the soiling gets better.

·       Sometimes where soiling has gone on for a long time, both parents and children can get frustrated and upset with each other as the parents try to help and children struggle with trying to get it right.

Soiling is embarrassing for children. They often get teased and sometimes don't have friends if it happens at school. It needs to be treated. Family members also are often unkind.

Important Note

Any persistent constipation or soiling in a child four years or older should be checked by a doctor to make sure the bowel is normal, and because it usually necessary to use an enema to get things going again.

·       You might feel guilty (as if somehow it is your fault), annoyed (as if the child is purposely trying to be difficult), upset and frustrated.

·       Remember that the problem began because your child was in pain. Your child did not develop this problem to upset you or to be manipulative.

·       You may have had criticism from neighbours and grandparents who think they know what you should do.

·       It is important to try not to get angry with the child because this will make him tense up and make it harder for him to get it right. Try to think of ways that will help you with this, for example leave the scene until you feel you can cope.

·       It is a problem that needs sorting out and it needs personal assessment from a health professional to give advice about what will help. There is no magic wand. You could ask your family doctor or staff at a child health service.

·       While you wait for an appointment, try to take all the pressure off your child.

·       When the child does a poo, say calmly "Doing poo is good for you". If the child is doing poo in the wrong places you could add "Poos go in the toilet."

·       Keep it as low key as possible.

·       Do not use rewards or bribery because they are not likely to work, except sometimes by accident.

·       Don't make the child clean up after himself because this feels like punishment for something he can't help.

·       Remember that getting in control of soiling takes time.

·       If you are getting pressure from relatives or other people, say something like "I'm getting some help with it, and I can only listen to the doctor/counsellor".

·       Think about any stresses that your child may have that are putting pressure on him. For example does he need more opportunities for choice in his life?

·       It is important that it does not get to be a battle and that parents don't think they have to win. Try to find lots of times in your child's life where she can have some say about what happens to her - such as what she eats and wears.

·       Treatment can be difficult at the beginning. You will need to find a doctor or health worker who understands the situation and who will support you for several months as your child's bowel is 're-trained' in knowing when poo needs to be passed.

·       The thing that needs to happen first is to empty the bowel of the large hard lump of poo. Enemas (liquid put into the bowel through the anus) are usually used. This process can hurt and it is often distressing, but it has to happen. Your doctor may have other strategies for this.

·       Your child needs to have a diet which makes softer poo (high in fibre for example) and more water to drink.

·       Usually laxatives are also used to make the poo slippery, so that it can come out more easily. Paraffin oil in a mixture that tastes reasonably acceptable may be recommended.

·       Behaviour modification programs with 'star charts' and rewards do not work at the beginning because the child cannot control his poo. Other behaviour change programs will often be recommended, such as regularly going to the toilet a short while after a meal, when the bowel is active and it might be easier to pass poo.

·       Because soiling is distressing for children and some stress may have triggered the soiling, seeing a counsellor can be helpful.

Research that Benefits Children and Families—Uplifting Stories

I came across this article about positive effect of interaction with self-esteem.  I really enjoy this article because of the did self-esteem between father and daughter and father and son.  It can be seen that girls and boys differ significantly in terms of family relationship (2004).  In addition to this research, one positive research I would like to do is the effect fathers have on children who are not living in the same household.  I think this would be  positive reasearch for the fathers to see what effects they have on these children.

Continue my personal research journey

 Three related subtopics.

1.  Factors that affect children learning abilities

2.  The influences peers has on other peers learning abilities

3.  How do the home environment affects children learning abilities
My professional and personal reasons for choosing these three subtopics are because I work with the Head Start program and a lot of my parents are low income.

My Personal Research Journey

I wanted to know how the child’s or family living environment will affect the child (ren) learning abilities.  I want to know some of the factors that affect children learning abilities depending on the environment.  Additional, I want to know if the influences of peers have on other peers learning abilities depending on the environment.  In other words, I want to know how these living in the projects affects a child’s learning abilities versa a child’s who lives in the suburbs.  So I have a lot of ideas but do not know which one to choose from.  To me all of them seem too broad to research and it seem that they will go on forever.  In this week reading, it stated that researcher have the problem selecting topic because they never know where the research might end up and that's how I feel about my research questions.  Please help me narrow my search, so I can have a good research question.

Final Blog Assignment

Three consequences of learning about the international early childhood field for my professional and personal development
  1. Some of the international early childhood field are working on some of the same issues and trends are the USA
  2. Some of the international early childhood field contact seem to be very busy
  3. It was very hard to get in contact with a lot of them because of the services they provide in the other countries.
One goal for the field related to international awareness of issues and trends and the spirit of collegial relations is to try to answers some of the questions we need answers to so we can I have a better understanding in the world.

Getting to Know Your International Contacts

I had no luck with my contact this week.  I sent a message to them on the 14th and they responsed sending this message on the 15th:

As I have shared earlier with everyone https://kinderplans.com, www.babycenter.com, and http://www.educationworld.com/ are great sites to visit. The main one I remand is Education World. They have several articles that are helps with a lot of things.  Following this website and receiving their newsletters have answered many of my questions I have had.  Through this website I have find tips on lesson plan, tips on professional development, co-teaching tips, and tips about technology.

Here is a link to one of the newsletters I received weekly http://www.educationworld.com/a_admin/summer-brain-builders-for-educators.shtml.  This particular article gives tip on summer brain builders for educator.  It meant for middle school but it can still be use for all grade level teachers.

The websites I selected never responded back and I forget who I have chosen to follow.  So recently I have been follow UNICEF, where I have found to great articles on their website.  Here is the link so you can visit http://www.unicef.org/index.php.  UNICEF organization focuses on health, protection, education, and child survival, which are the basic for issues and trends in some of the foreign countries.

Getting to Know Your International Contacts

I really like the website UNICEF.  It has great articles and share a lot of things that people are doing all over the world.  A lot of their article are touching and sad.  That can be a good thing because it makes me want to get out and do something to help out.  An article I read June 1 called Post-natal home visits improve newborn survival in Gaza, was about help young mother of infants improve their parenting skills after birth.  Stated in the article,  every year, an estimated 1,600 babies die in the first four weeks of life in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Most of these newborns deaths could be prevented if mothers and newborns’s health was systematically evaluated, and if young mothers received advice on how to best care for their children (Weibel, 2012).  That sadden me because I am mother of three kids, a three year and a set of twins that are about to be one.  Just imaging my babies in the first four weeks is something I probably will not be about to live.  UNICEF is doing some amazing things by sending our nurses and midwives to help these mothers and they are visiting them three times within the first four weeks.  They are promoting breastfeeding which I am really big on.

Another part of the article that caught my eye when Hafsteinsdottir stated,  "A 38-year-old mother who had just given birth to her 14th child. She and her 15-year-old daughter were pregnant simultaneously, and consulted together at the clinic,” Hafsteinsdottir said. “The mother told me she wanted all her children to marry young, to move out of the family house and start having children immediately because this is what she did, and because it is a practical way of making room for the younger children in her crowded house (Weibel, 2012)."  That raise a question, "Is there any type of birth control in Gaza?  Who are educating them about sex or abstention?  Where are the parents of the young teenage mother?

In different countries and ethics group I guessing that where the differences comes in values and moral.

When looking over the UNICEF website this was very eye catching for me.  It was an article on clean water in Honduras.  This kind of hit close to home be one of my student parnet  is from Honduras.  I remember she would come in and tell us how it was over them. She would always so it was bad meaning poor.  She said that the states are better.  I never really thought about how bad it was until I read on the article.  UNICEF staff visit a small community in western Honduras to see how the lives of residents have changed since the installation of improved water and sanitation infrastructure (Marcos González, 2012).  With support from UNICEF, the National Autonomous Service of Aqueducts and Sewers (SANAA) recently installed improved water and sanitation infrastructure in the area. Twelve months ago, this programme brought tap water to each of the 40 homes in this community, changing residents’ lives completely (Marrcos Gonzales, 2012).  Before the water was install people would catch rashes but now that they installed a new water system it does happen anymore.

The lack of drinking water not only affected children's health in Cerritos II, it also seriously hindered their access to education  (Marrcos Gonzales, 2012). Children had to fill water jugs instead of going to school.  One teacher said that attendance has improve since the water system has been put in place.

This article really sadden me.  I can not image living without the water and that is one of the simple thing some of us take for granted.  This article was very touching.

Sharing Web Resources

Unfortunately, the two organization I emailed has not emailed me back that was Haiti and the Netherlands.  However, I am subscribed to kinderplans newsletter. This site you have to be a member and you can receive free lesson pages for  everything such as themes for seasons, holidays, and etc., whatever you can think of.  They send out lesson plan ideas weekly and monthly just depending on the occasion.  The lady who runs the website is Elaine Engerdahl. She always has a blog that goes along with the site. Here is the link https://kinderplans.com, https://kinderplans.com/blog/.  Another website I am subscribed to is the baby center.  I subscribed to this one when I was pregnant with my first child.  This website tracks your pregnancy and different milestones as you progresses in your pregnancy and after the baby is born.  Then it starts to track the baby milestones, keeping you update about the developments with the baby.  Here is the link  www.babycenter.com.  Another I am also subscribed to is education world.  This site provides with ton of information for professional developments to lesson plan.  It sends out weekly newsletters with different ideas, lesson plans, current event, continuing here education, and etc. This  weekly newsletter is published by Education  World®the largest *free* resource on the Web for teachers and school  administrators. Did you know that Education World posts new content five days a week? Bookmark EducationWorld.com and make sure you don't miss a new article or resource! Here is the link http://www.educationworld.com/

Looking back on recent newsletter Education World out.  A current issue caught my eye dealing with technology.  In the newsletter they where offering to earn a degree in Education Media Design and Technology, interactive game that teaches math concepts, a virtual orchestra to liven up a music class, or an animated grammar lesson, the possibilities of using technology as a learning tool continue to expand (Education World, 2012). Learn how you can reach your students through media technology (Education World, 2012).  This was eye catching because I think that every school system, preschool, or whoever providing care for school age children that uses technology needs to be up to date on technology in the classroom to enhance that child learning.
